The word Tenebrae is Latin for shadows. The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story. This is not supposed to be a happy service because the occasion was not happy. The service was originally designed for Good Friday and may include solemn hymns, a sermon, and communion.
They need us to continue serving; our help is essential! With this in mind we need to pivot our focus from, “Ok, how do we meet when we can’t physically be together?”, to “Ok, how do we find ways to safely serve and love the vulnerable people in our community?” A practical example of a way we can help would be by continuing our community cook nights.
This week a public health emergency was declared in Alberta, gatherings of more than 50 people are prohibited and so it follows that NEXT Christian Community will not be able to meet together in-person for the foreseeable future.
We plan to gather to worship together this Sunday. We encourage you to make decisions for you and your family based upon your health and best judgment.
On December 23 we were able to feed and celebrate Christmas with 175 vulnerable moms and their kids who look to the agency for support throughout the year. July 4 to August 22 – Join us for weekly Thursday evening services from 7 to 8 P.M.
We do summer a little differently at NEXT. 2019 marks our second year of Simple Summer services. So that everyone gets to take a bit of a break during the summer (pastor, volunteers and congregation), we shift our weekly gathering to Thursday evenings instead of Sunday mornings.
On April 28, 2018 NEXT officially moved to Red Willow Community Church.
